DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce the call for the pilot edition of the G.A.S. Critical Writing Workshop\, an initiative supporting the professional and critical development of emerging art writers\, researchers\, and cultural practitioners based in Lagos\, Nigeria.⁠\n⁠\nLed by current resident Olutomi Kassim (@searchforisinmi)\, this three-day intensive at G.A.S. Lagos will bring together six early-career/emerging participants for a focused programme centred on developing practical writing skills and critical approaches to engaging with art.⁠\n⁠\nThis edition will explore critical art writing practices while examining how writing can function as a tool for activism\, encouraging readers to ask questions\, challenge dominant narratives\, and engage more deeply with the social and political contexts that shape contemporary art.⁠\n⁠\n✅ Develop a clear argument\, title\, and short critical text⁠\n✅ Situate your writing within key cultural and scholarly debates⁠\n✅ Learn research methods grounded in Nigerian epistemologies (incl. Chinweizu Ibekwe & Wole Soyinka)⁠\n✅ Take part in guided writing exercises\, discussions & peer feedback⁠\n✅ Produce a 1\,000-word draft or structured article outline⁠\n✅ Opportunity for publication in Business Today\, Nigeria⁠\n⁠\nThe G.A.S. Critical Writing Workshop falls under the wider scope of Project Nexus\, an ambitious residency and education programme designed to nurture and empower artists\, art educators\, art historians\, and curators through a series of residencies\, professional development workshops\, and educational initiatives over three years. DESCRIPTION:The iREPRESENT International Documentary Film Festival (iREP) has announced a strategic partnership with Ecobank Nigeria for its 15th anniversary edition\, scheduled to hold March 18–22\, 2026\, at the Ecobank PanAfrican Centre\, Ozumba Mbadiwe Street\, Victoria Island\, Lagos. \nThe 2026 festival marks 15 years since the founding of iREP\, acclaimed as one of Africa’s most influential platforms for documentary films. Convened by the Foundation for the Promotion of Documentary Films in Africa (FPDFA)\, iREP has consistently advanced documentary storytelling\, critical discourse\, and capacity development across the continent. \nWith the theme “Transformation\,” the anniversary edition will examine the transformative power of documentary filmmaking in Africa over the past 15 years. The various events in the programme – conversations\, screenings\, workshops\, trainings etc – will spotlight the role of documentary films in shaping public discourse\, influencing policy\, preserving cultural memory\, and amplifying African voices on global platforms. \nSet against a reawakened African cultural renaissance\, the festival reflects a renewed emphasis on African creativity\, identity\, and talent.
