Alternative Heritage in Time: Who Sabi? [Roundtable Discussion]

May 13 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Free

Over the past two years, a project focused on Alternative Heritage in Nigeria has engaged in critical inquiry, digital documentation, and workshops to highlight marginalized cultural expressions.
As the project concludes, a roundtable discussion titled “Alternative Heritage in Time: Who Sabi?” aims to reflect on the processes and motivations behind the work.

It will address key issues such as agency in preservation, ownership of narratives, and the validity of different types of knowledge. The discussion seeks to critically re-examine the role of various stakeholders, interrogate motivations for prioritizing certain narratives, scrutinize the implications of the term “Alternative Heritage,” evaluate the ethics of digital preservation, and ultimately chart a path forward for more ethical and community-centered heritage practices.
